Administration means the care for the police organization. The minister of the Interior is responsible for the central administration of the police in the Netherlands. One of the burgomasters in a region (often the burgomaster in the biggest municipality) is force administrator. Together with the chief public prosecutor, he has the ultimate responsibility for administering the police force. Day-to-day management is in the hands of the regional chief of police. Decisions about the principal lines of policy are taken by the regional board. Board members are all of the burgomasters in a region, as well as the chief public prosecutor. Policies are worked out in detail in the so-called tripartite consultations, in which the force administrator, the chief public prosecutor and the chief of police in the region in question partake.
